2nd Grade

Welcome to 2nd Grade music with Mrs. G! In 2nd grade, we begin to learn about the instruments, their families, and how sound is produced. We continue working on our singing voices and keeping a steady beat. Below are the standards we work on throughout the year!

*Sing with a clear, singing tone quality

*Sing acapella with appropriate dynamics and phrasing

*Sing a memorized song in a foreign language

*Maintain a steady beat while singing or speaking an ostinato

*Play a given pitch pattern

*Play an easy ostinato

*Play a short melody using appropriate dynamic levels

*Maintain a steady beat on a percussion instrument

*Read and write half, quarter, and eighth notes in two or four beat groupings

*Read and write quarter and half rests

*ID pitch patterns using syllables or numbers

*ID melodic lines that ascend, descend, or stay the same

*ID dynamic markings for crescendo, diminuendo, staccato, legato, repeat sign, and a tie

*Respond on a melodic instrument to teacher given phrases

*Create a simple ostinato using an instrument or a sound from the classroom

*Create a short phrase or melody with the teacher’s guidance, and record it on tape or student’s invented notation

*Arrange a short piece using a variety of sounds from traditional or non-traditional sources

*Help create a piece that could accompany a poem or introduce a play

 

*Use movements to indicate changes in the music being heard

*Assemble a collection or musical terms and their meanings

*ID by sight and sound the types of families of instruments

*Use movement to indicate what is meant by the terms crescendo, descrescendo, andante, and allegro
